U.S. Space Command participates in Chile’s largest aerospace defense exhibition

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. --  U.S. Space Command participated in an aerospace defense exhibition in Santiago, Chile April 5-10, 2022.
 
The exhibition, known as Feria Internacional del Aire y del Espacio (FIDAE), is held every two years.  Since FIDAE was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, this was the first-time USSPACECOM participated.
 
Throughout the week, Soldiers, Airmen and Guardians from USSPACECOM and its service components - U.S. Space Force’s Space Operations Command and U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command - described to the audience how space cooperation is vital to protecting and defending our way of life as well as reinforced the importance of the relationship between Latin America and the U.S.
 
“U.S. Space Command’s partnership with Latin America is critical to ensure the safety, stability, security and long-term sustainability of space activities,” said U.S. Space Force Brig. Gen. Devin R. Pepper, USSPACECOM’s deputy director of strategy, plans and policy. “The United States promotes responsible behavior and safe space operations by supporting space situational awareness; leading efforts to develop guidelines for responsible behavior; and cooperating with other countries.”
 
Pepper provided a keynote speech April 8, about the tenets of space behavior and the responsible use of space during FIDAE’s first-ever “Space Summit,” an event focused on space as a business model, and the social, technological and public value of space. The audience was comprised of about 250 aerospace professionals representing military, academic, and commercial interests, spanning Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
 
 “Cooperation in the space domain is vital to ensuring we all have access to the space-based capabilities that the world is growing increasingly reliant on,” said Pepper. “We must continue to strengthen our alliances and partnerships with the international community, commercial industry, and whole-of-government, to ensure our shared interests are protected.”
 
USSPACECOM conducts operations in, from, and to space to deter conflict, and if necessary, defeat aggression, deliver space combat power for the Joint and Combined force, and defend U.S. vital interests with allies and partners.
