Space Base Delta 2 welcomes new commander

During the change of command, Jackson relinquished command to the presiding officer, Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, Space Operations Command commander and Whiting passed the Space Base Delta 2 guidon to Dexter. 

The transition of the guidon symbolizes her acceptance of the role as the new commander for Space Base Delta 2. 

In Whiting's remarks, he highlighted the challenges and obstacles that Jackson and his team had successfully overcome during his time leading Space Base Delta 2. Whiting commended Jackson as an exceptional leader for his achievements during his tenure. 

“Commanding such a dynamic mission requires the leadership of a skilled and accomplished officer and Colonel Marcus Jackson has been that officer,” said Whiting. “Thank you Marcus for a job exceptionally well done.” 

While recognizing Jackson for his remarks, Whiting welcomed and challenged Dexter as the incoming commander. 

“I charge you, Col Dexter, with building on the strong foundation of leading and caring for our Guardians and Airmen, military and civilian alike, while cultivating ties with our respected partners,” said Whiting. “I have every confidence you will carry out your duties with character, connection, commitment and courage, just as you have done throughout your career.”

Jackson warmly welcomed Dexter as the new commander of SBD 2 and Jackson expressed his gratitude for his time as the base commander and wished Dexter success in her new role.

“Hiedi, congratulations to you and your family, you are an exceptional officer and leader, Team Buckley will soar under your tenure,” said Jackson. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside Team Buckley. As I depart from this command I can do so with immense pride in our collective achievements.”

In her first address to the command, Dexter expressed her dedication to the mission and her plans for the future. She looks forward to working with the team to enhance operational capabilities and strengthen the base's role within the U.S. Space Force. 

“I am honored and humble to be joining Team Buckley. I have watched as you provide unwavering mission support to the local deltas and mission partners and work through times of unprecedented change,” said Dexter. “ I look forward to what the next two years will bring. I know Space Base Delta 2 will continue to achieve great things.”
