Field Grade Officers assigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base prepare to commission into the United States Space Force prior to the USSF FGO Induction Ceremony Oct. 16, 2020, at Vandenberg AFB, Calif. The induction ceremony followed the time-honored military tradition as the officers affirmed their commitment to the armed services taking the Oath of Office. Shaw, U.S. Space Force’s Space Operations Command commander, administers the Oath of Office to new Space Force Field Grade Officers during the United States Space Force FGO Induction Ceremony Oct. 16, 2020, at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. During the ceremony, the FGOs chanted “Semper Supra,” the motto for the USSF, which means always above. This symbolizes the connection to the start and to the land and space based systems that the USSF members operate and depend on. This ceremony marked yet another significant milestone in the development of the USSF, since its creation on Dec. 20, 2019, officially commissioning the newest FGOs into the Space Force. Many Air Force personnel in space-related career fields have been transferring into the USSF to become Space Force service members since Sept. 1, 2020.
