DELTA MISSION:
The mission of Delta 9 is to prepare, present, and project assigned and attached forces for the purpose of conducting protect and defend operations and providing national decision authorities with response options to deter and, when necessary, defeat orbital threats. Additionally, Delta 9 supports Space Domain Awareness by conducting space-based battlespace characterization operations and on-orbit experimentation and technology demonstrations for the U.S. Space Force.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To protect and defend the U.S. and our allied interests in space through orbital warfare operations
ORGANIZATION:
Space Delta 9 consists of three active-duty squadrons headquartered at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado, which are the 1st and 3rd Space Operations Squadrons, and 9th Combat Training Squadron, as well as the 5th Space Operations Squadron headquartered at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington D.C.
The 1st Space Operations Squadron (1 SOPS) conducts space-based surveillance and reconnaissance operations for battle space characterization to protect and defend U.S. and allied interests in space. 1 SOPS operates the Operationally Responsive Space 5 and Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program in support of U.S. Space Command requirements.
The 3rd Space Operations Squadron (3 SOPS) executes proof of concept, Tactics, Techniques and Procedure (TTP), and concepts of operation (CONOPS) development to operationalize experimentation and demonstrations.
The 5th Space Operations Squadron (5 SOPS) conducts premier operations, experimentation, and demonstration of advanced space technologies while developing and validating TTP concepts.
The 9th Combat Training Squadron (9 CTS) generates Combat-Ready Space Forces for Space Delta 9's orbital warfare protect and defend mission. The squadron is responsible for training, intelligence, weapons and tactics, and operational support necessary to enable Delta 9 to conduct its on-orbit protect and defend mission across the spectrum of conflict.
