Space Operations Command

SPACE OPERATIONS COMMAND

OVERVIEW
Space Operations Command (SpOC), headquartered at Peterson Space Force Base (SFB), Colorado, is one of three Field Commands reporting to Headquarters, U.S. Space Force at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Space Operations Command protects America and our Allies in, from, and to space…now and into the future. As the first U.S. Space Force Field Command Headquarters, HQ SpOC generates, presents and sustains combat-ready intelligence, cyber, space and combat support forces.

SpOC provides Space Domain Awareness; Space Electronic Warfare; Missile Warning; Command and Control; Cyber Operations; Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance; Position, Navigation and Timing; and Orbital Warfare capabilities to the Space Force, U.S. Space Command, and other combatant commands and military services.

SpOC is responsible for operating installations at Buckley, Peterson, and Schriever Space Force Bases and at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station in Colorado, as well as a number of geographically-separated units across the U.S. and overseas. SpOC units are made up of Space Force Guardians and Air Force Airmen, civilians and government contractor personnel.

BACKGROUND
On December 20, 2019, the President signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2020, establishing the U.S. Space Force (USSF) as a new Armed Service within the Department of the Air Force (DAF). Subsequently, the Secretary of the Air Force (SECAF) re-designated Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) as USSF, re-designated 14th Air Force as the Space Operations Command (SpOC), and reassigned all personnel previously assigned to AFSPC to the USSF by virtue of these re-designations. These initial actions provided immediate structure for the USSF but were not intended to reflect the end-state of the new branch of Service.

Effective October 21, 2020, SECAF re-designated the former AFSPC staff organization at Peterson Air Force Base (now Space Force Base) as SpOC headquarters, the first USSF Field Command (FLDCOM). This re-designation aligned the FLDCOM responsibility for the preparation, generation and sustainment of combat-ready intelligence, cyber, space and combat support forces to the staff and commander responsible for executing this mission.
